About filigree: 

Filigree originated in Upper Mesopotamia in 3000 BC and, as the name suggests, is a type of handicraft made with wires. Although each region's filigree has its own subtleties and differences, filigree is generally created by twisting and crushing micron-thick silver or gold wires in a cylinder, then compressing them into a very thin metal frame in harmony and welding them.
