About filigree: 

Filigree was born in Upper Mesopotamia in 3000 BC, and, as its name suggests, is a type of handicraft made with wires. Although each region’s filigree has its own subtleties and differences, in general terms filigree is created by twisting and crushing micron-thick silver or gold wires in a cylinder, then compressing them in harmony inside a very thin metal frame and welding them.
